The Country Club of Waterbury
A Donald Ross Course

cema golf outing:  The Country Club of Waterbury
Tuesday, June 24, 2025

Located in the central part of the state on rollicking, rocky terrain, Waterbury is a true Donald Ross design that has been altered very little since he came here in 1928. In typical Ross fashion, he routed this par 69 terrifically over the terrain with a fantastic set of greens and plenty of challenge for better players. Like nearby Worcester, this is a course that would receive a lot more attention if it were closer to either Boston or New York, but flies well-under the radar in a post-industrial city like Waterbury. The very definition of a hidden gem, a day at Waterbury is a day very well spent and one I recommend very highly. See the tab "How to Play the Course" for a full overview of every hole.

Ross was a prolific golf course designer, having designed hundreds of courses. His most notable ones were Pinehurst in NC, Oakland Hills in MI, Inverness in OH, and Seminole in FL. All these 100-year old courses have stood the test of time and have been the site of major championships. We're pleased to offer his Waterbury course to players this year!

CEMA strives to bring some of the best playing experiences to our golfers. We were at Lake of Isles last year, and here's where we've been since 2018:

2018  Lake of Isles
2019  Hartford Golf Club
2020  Great River Golf Club
2021  TPC River Highlands
2022  Fox Hopyard
2023  Yale Golf Club
2024  Lake of Isles

The Country Club of Waterbury is currently ranked the 8th best course in Connecticut by Golf Digest here, ahead of courses we've played including TPC River Highlands #9, Hartford #10, Lake of Isles (Foxwoods) South Course #12 and North Course #19, and Great River #14.  Yale is ranked #2 though is still closed for renovation.
